Invented data stream converter for 6G networks, providing more than 100 Gbps transmission speed 2 октября, 2021


Scientists have developed super-fast electro-optical modulators that convert the terahertz data signals into optical for the direct connection of the receiver antenna with fiberglass. The new approach will significantly speed up the transmission of information in cellular networks 6G.

Although at the moment the 5G cellular network technology is still tested, the researchers are already actively working on systems for wireless transmission of the next generation. To launch a new format, you need to solve many tasks, including the effective exchange of large amounts of information.

Since the receiver antennas must be connected to fiber optic networks, you need a reliable portable data stream converter with a practically unlimited bandwidth.

Researchers from the Karlsruhe Technological Institute have developed a promising approach to transformation of data flow between terahertz and optical domains. For this, the group used an ultra-wide-band silicon-plasmon modulator with a bandwidth of more than 0.36 THz. In his experiment, scientists have chosen a carrier frequency of 0.2885 THz and reached 50 Gb / s transmission rate.

The concept presented can significantly reduce the technical complexity of future basic radio stations and will be able to provide a wireless connection at a speed of several hundred gigabytes per second.
